Ashe development roadmap

Where things stand

Ashe 1.4 is still in development. Planned content may change. This roadmap includes story spoilers; future versions, scope, and timing are tentative.

Version 1.4 — The Shape of a Soul

Ashe’s next content update focuses on her relationships, quest choices, and presence across Skyrim. New conversations explore who she is becoming, while smaller interactions give that growth room to show between adventures.

Story and character

  • The Phantom Ache: a post–Chapter 7 reflection on life after vengeance, the tension between Ashe’s body and soul, and the person she is becoming. Planned branches reflect her ethical development and relationship with the player. This is a bridge toward the future epilogue, not the full epilogue itself.
  • After Chapter 1: conversations about Rebecca, Canas, the workshop, and the gap between Ashe’s destruction and restoration.
  • Chapter 2: a more flexible Nevas investigation. Notice his deception or find evidence early, discuss it with Ashe, and approach the ambush with different knowledge. Newer development notes also account for killing Nevas early and finding his note in different orders.
  • Returning-player recruitment: a planned option to skip the prologue on repeat playthroughs.

Romance through the questline

The newer September development work replaces the original article’s brief Chapter 3 proposal. After Chapter 3, players can rest at a campsite near Markarth or continue into Chapter 4. The campsite offers a seated evening conversation, optional closeness, actual sleep, and a daytime follow-up. Declining closeness or skipping the camp does not permanently exclude later romance.

Chapter 4 adds a romance-aware walk toward Calcelmo with player-aware waiting. Chapter 6 offers a romance interaction after a successfully completed current subquest and sufficient romance progress; failed subquests alone do not qualify. Acceptance includes a brief kiss and follow-up, while refusal remains an available path. Post–Chapter 7 reflection and chronology revisions are planned to continue the slow-burn relationship.

Quest awareness

The planned Skyrim main-quest pass covers key moments from Bleak Falls Barrow through the main-quest epilogue: Dragon Rising, The Way of the Voice, The Horn of Jurgen Windcaller, A Blade in the Dark, Diplomatic Immunity, A Cornered Rat, Alduin’s Wall, The Throat of the World, The Fallen, Season Unending, and The World-Eater’s Eyrie. Much of this awareness depends on Ashe’s Chapter 1 automaton reveal.

Solo Daedric commentary is planned for Ill Met By Moonlight and Waking Nightmare. Shared content for Discerning the Transmundane, Ill Met By Moonlight, and the House of Horrors aftermath belongs to the separate Ashe & Serana Banter 1.1 update.

Everyday companionship

  • Personal conversations about the Nocturne Lily, Dwemer archives and a glitched directive, temples and the afterlife, Canas’s repair work, and personhood and memory.
  • More companion opinions and “What’s on your mind?” responses.
  • A basic Dwemer mechanical horse; its dedicated quest remains a later-update plan.
  • A take-a-break/roam option and more dialogue around existing outfit choices, follow behavior, and dismissal.
  • Dragon-soul reactions and additional greetings.
  • A planned batch of 42 custom-name additions, custom conversations, and more Kalin/default-name references. Individual names will be announced separately.

Reliability

Current 1.4 development notes include improved Nevas evidence handling, a wider pool of valid Binding Blade bounty targets, more reliable low-health system-failure dialogue, and recovery handling for the new romance scenes. These changes are still being tested.

Later-update plans

  • 1.5 / epilogue: the larger Price of Sentience story and Ashe’s finale.
  • 1.6 / smaller update: custom names, fixes, selected radiant dialogue and awareness, with possible Aela/Serana interactions and Companions awareness alongside Aela development.
  • 1.7 / scope to be decided: further quest and romance content, a dedicated horse quest, possible Dark Brotherhood and College of Winterhold awareness, and more follower banter.
  • Expanded Shattered Orphans and Binding Blade story content, Requiem-specific dialogue, Ashe–Aniya banter, and larger visual/audio foreshadowing remain later plans. This does not exclude the targeted Binding Blade selection fix in 1.4.
  • Broader ideas include contextual dialogue and NPC interactions, more automaton-aware behavior, gift giving, hugs, idle animations, crafting/level-up reactions, and additional outfit presentation options. These are possibilities rather than promised release features.

Writing direction

New dialogue should reveal character, respond to the player’s choices, or deepen the moment. Ashe’s tactical perspective and developing emotional life remain the center of the update.
